*** PRESS RELEASE *** November 3, 2018: Shortly before 1:30 this afternoon a flight crew with the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS), assisting in the search for Derrik Jenkins, spotted a body in a steep terrain near Box Elder Peak at an elevation just over 9,800 feet. Derrik has been missing since he was last heard from Wednesday afternoon, October 31, about 4:30 PM. Thursday afternoon volunteers with Utah County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue (SAR), along with a UCSO fixed wing aircraft and a helicopter with Utah DPS, responded to search for Derrik. They searched Thursday, Friday, and Saturday until the body was found. It is believed to be the body of Derrik Jenkins, but positive ID will be made during an autopsy. Also assisting in the search were members of Davis County and Wasatch County SAR. Today there were over 50 volunteers assisting in the search. While cause of death is not known with certainty, it was apparent the body had sustained significant injuries likely incurred as the result of a fall. More details will be released as they become available.
