A 59 year old man from Rupert, Idaho died after the hang glider he was flying fell approximately 50 feet at Point of the Mountain Flight Park. This was his first solo flight.


Shortly before 10:30 AM today Central Utah 911 received a 911 call from someone reporting that a man had crashed while hang gliding at Point of the Mountain Flight Park north of Lehi.  Witnesses who were there said the man was unconscious and was not breathing.  They began to administer CPR.  Lehi Police Officers, with Lehi Fire and Ambulance, LifeFlight, and Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's office responded.  Paramedics took over efforts to resuscitate the victim but he was pronounced dead at the scene.  The victim, a 59 year old man from Rupert, Idaho, was here with family and an instructor.  This was his first solo flight.  Witnesses said it appeared that the wind died significantly while the man was flying.  He reportedly turned then fell about 50 feet straight to the ground.  He suffered significant head trauma and other injuries as well.  His body was taken to the Utah Medical Examiner's Office.

The man killed in the hang glider crash is 59 year old Ron Holder of Rupert, Idaho.
